Here you can see the 852nd Aviation Engineer Battalion preparing to move from East Anglia across to France in the Spring of 1944. I can’t be 100% sure this is Birch Airfield Essex but one big clue is the shot of ‘Hangmen’s Alley’. I believe this could be a reference to Private JC Leatherberry of the 356th Engineer Service Regiment USAAF who was hanged for the murder of Harry Claude Hailstone, a taxi driver from Maldon Road Colchester Essex in January 1945.
